10 Upcoming Movies To Look Forward To In 2017!

This year we had a lot of good picks for movies from all industries. With Pakistan working really hard to rebuild their film industry here are quite a few good movies lined up for the year 2017. Here are some of the movies that are lined up this year.

1. Chalay Thay Saath

By the looks of the trailer the movie looks promising. It’s based on the life of a young doctor named Reshma, played by Syra Shehroz who is on a fun-filled trip with her friends.  This is also the debut Pakistani movie for the talented international filmmaker and actor, Kent S Leung as Syra’s love interest. This romantic comedy, directed by Umer Adil, will focus more on family values, love, and friendship and is filmed all around Pakistan, including Hunza’s gorgeous landscapes.

2. Albela Rahi

Are you a fan of Urdu pop music? Then you must know the Alamgir. This movie pays tribute to the music icon of 60s and 70s; aims to shed light on Alamgir’s rise to fame and it named after one of his most popular tracks. The movie stars Fawad Khan and is set to release next year.

3. Balu Mahi

Starring Osman Khalid Butt and Ainy Jaffri, Balu Mahi, is directed by Haissam Hussain and is set for a stellar release on February 10th, 2017. The movie looks very fairy-tale-esque and a lot of the scenes are being filmed in various locations of Northern Pakistan which are bound to be mesmerizing. Sahir Ali Bagga has composed five songs for the movie.

4. Maula Jatt 2

The Gandasa is back, people! This is a sequel to the 1979 cult-classic, Maula Jatt 2, and will feature the heartthrobs Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi in the lead roles. The supporting cast also boasts powerful stars like Sanam Jung, Shamoon Abbasi, and Adnan Jaffer. With this movie, director Bilal Lashari hopes to revive the Gandasa genre of Lollywood. The film will be dubbed in three languages; English, Urdu, and Punjabi.

5. Project Ghazi

Pakistan’s first superhero film, Project Ghazi stars the talented, Sheheryar Munawar, Syra Shehroz, and Humayun Saeed. This action movie, directed by Nadir Shah, will delve into other themes revolving around love, loss, and patriotism. This highly anticipated movie would surely open up opportunities for Pakistani filmmakers to produce more superhero-affiliated films.

6. Spider-Man: Homecoming

This new Spider-Man movie will not only be based on the life of a young Peter Parker but it will combine together the world of the Avengers- more importantly, Iron-Man who will play his mentor. There have been several Spider-Man movies to date, with previous ones including the stars, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. However, in this reboot, it is the young actor, Tom Holland that stars as Peter Parker. Although, Holland is officially making history for accurately representing a teenager considering the past actors had been a decade older than the character, Peter Parker.

7. Fifty Shades Darker

Sequel to the popular erotic trilogy written by E.L. James ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’, comes ‘Fifty Shades Darker’. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson will reprise their roles as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The movie is set to release on February 14th, 2017.

8. The Beauty and the Beast

Who remembers the classic tale of the Beauty and the Beast from 1991? Disney had been cashing on nostalgia by bringing live-actions movies to screen, but we’re not complaining at all.  The movie stars Emma Watson in the fitting lead as Belle, Dan Stevens as the beast, Luke Evans as Gaston. The rest of the star-studded cast features Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, Ian McKellen, Kevin Kline, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Audra McDonald. This highly anticipated remake is set to release on 17th March 2017.

9. Raees

This action thriller, directed by Rahul Dholakia, is supposedly based on the life of the infamous criminal, Abdul Latif, although the makers of the film strictly deny these rumors. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, this film is set to release on 25th January next year. Set in the 1980s in Gujarat, it follows the life of the bootlegger Raees Alam who is on top of the police officer, ACP Majmudar’s list after raised suspicions.

10. Rangoon

This historical period film is set during World War 2 and is set to release on the 24th of February in 2017. It features a star-studded cast, which includes Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, and Saif Ali Khan. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, this film will follow the life of two individuals who find love in times of struggle during the war. With the recreation of the 1940s, the set will be very old timey fashioned, from the dressing to the backdrops.
