The fledgling film industry of Pakistan has considerably upped its ante, when it comes to movies that bleed green. Many hits have been produced in the last few years. Most of which are perfect to rejuvenate your enthusiasm and to fuel up the patriotism in you.

As Pakistan Day is just around the corner, here are the top 5 movies every movie-fanatic around the country must watch:

1) Khuda Kay Liye (2007)

Shoaib Mansoor’s, ‘Khuda Kay Liay’ took the box office by storm. The movie released 10 years ago and successfully broke the Pakistani stereotypes regarding the teachings of Islam and Pakistani culture. Moreover, it highlighted the brutalities faced by Muslims after 9/11 in the US.

Cast: Shaan, Naseeruddin Shah, Fawad Khan, Iman Ali, Naeem Tahir and Hameed Sheikh.

2) Waar (2013)

Waar revolves around a Pakistani retired army officer and Pakistan’s war against terrorism. The Pakistani action-thriller was produced and written by Hassan Rana and directed by Bilal Lashari.

Cast:  Shaan Shahid, Shamoon Abbasi, Meesha Shafi, Ayesha Khan, Ali Azmat and Hamza Ali Abbasi.


3) Shah (2015)

Written and directed by Adnan Sarwar, the movie is a biopic based on the life of Hussain Shah. He won a bronze medal in 1988 and is the only Pakistani to have secured a medal in the Olympics.

Cast: Adnan Sarwar, Kiran Chaudhry, Sardar Baloch, Adeel Raees and Gulab Chandio.

4) Maalik (2016)

Ashir Azeem’s political thriller raised several political issues that have plagued our country. The 2016 release centers around an SSG officer’s anti-corruption crusade.

Cast: Ashir Azeem, Farhan Aly Agha, Sajid Hassan, Ehteshamuddin and Hassan Niazi.

5) Jinnah (2015)

The movie is a high definition re-release of Akbar S. Ahmed and Jamil Dehlavi’s ‘Jinnah’ from 1998. The movie depicts the life of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. The biographical movie was re-released in 2015.
