Marium Mukhtar is the first female, Pakistani Air Force pilot to lose her life in the line of duty. To pay tribute, Urdu 1 has taken the responsibility of sharing her story in a telefilm Ek Thi Marium featuring Sanam Baloch. The telefilm will be launched on Defence Day, September 6th.
This is a topic very close to our hearts because we are deeply grateful to the armed forces who work so hard to keep us safe and appreciate the sanctity and value of life.
The telefilm portrays the life of Air Force pilot, Marium Mukhtar, from when she started training as a pilot to her last flight which ended her life.
Here are 5 reasons why we look very forward to the defence day special telefilm Ek Thi Marium
The Celebration of a National Hero!
Our armed forces have our greatest respect and are a source of national pride. Marium Mukhtar pledged her life as a protector to which she followed through to the end. She is a national hero and we love and honor her memory for it.
Sanam Baloch will take on the titular role to pay homage to the martyred hero, in what we consider a patriotic and career-making move. We look forward to learning Marium’s story and watching her life play out on the screen.
A Powerful Role- Breaking Stereotypes & Highlighting Girl Power
We rarely get military dramas- or any other genre straying too far from the usual themes of love and family- even less so featuring women as lead characters in strong, independent roles. For us to get a glimpse into Marium’s life as a pilot will be an enlightening experience. We want to learn about her trials and tribulations; her successes and setbacks when working for the military; the challenges she faced both as a woman and as an Air Force pilot in a field primarily dominated by men. It is a career defining role for any actress and we want to see if Sanam Baloch will do it justice.
Sanam Baloch’s Comeback Drama
‘Ek Thi Marium’ is Sanam Baloch’s comeback role after her hiatus from acting since 2013. She kicked it off with training with the Air Force Academy. Sanam spent a few days going through pilot training as well as studying the environment and the body language of the pilots. It was a good move on her behalf as it lends more authenticity to her portrayal of Marium Mukhtar. It also gives us a glimpse into how professional Sanam Baloch can be, presuming some actresses would turn down the role based on the hard work involved.
The trailer looks very promising
The trailer is beautifully presented; which isn’t surprising considering the talented team of filmmakers, writers, and actors on board. We wait in anticipation to see how it will be in its execution.
Sarmad Khoosat’s directorial venture- Need we say more?
Sarmad Khoosat is credited as a brilliant man and a true maestro in his art of filmmaking. His works are artfully and skillfully directed. He is labeled as being studious, meticulous and dedicated to his job as a director. In his own words, he wants to experiment with new storylines and ideas instead of sticking with the tried and tested that people believe “sell”.
He has taken a bold step in directing this telefilm; which- if successful- may pave way for serials and films of more varying genres. With Sarmad Khoosat directing, we do not doubt it is a telefilm worth watching.
Eik Thi Marium is a step forward in exploring new ideas and a shout-out to women equality and empowerment. We salute the armed forces for their services to their country and the artists for making the effort to tell us their story.
