Bollywood’s most beautiful actress and the ex-miss world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been participating at the Cannes Film Festival since past fourteen years. She has astonished her fans with her ensembles on the Red Carpet and is yet again busy in participating in the festival this year.
The actress will be seen with other known Bollywood celebrities at the Red carpet as the brand ambassador of L’Oreal Paris.
After participating for years at the Cannes red carpet, Aishwarya hasn’t really developed much sense and has mostly been criticised upon her choice of fashion.
Aishwarya debuted at the Cannes red carpet wearing a yellow sari with heavy gold jewellery in the year 2002 along with Shahrukh Khan. Seemed as if the actress mistook a red carpet for a wedding but was excused this time as both the actors were promoting their upcoming movie “Devdas” along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
In the year 2003, the world’s most beautiful lady and the first Indian actor to be a jury member at the Cannes was a disaster on the red carpet. Aishwarya wore a neon green Neeta Lulla sari with her hair tied in a bun.
2004 was a disaster for Aishwarya as well, she wore a revealing Neeta Lulla gown at the Cannes red carpet that is criticised till date. She accessorised her gown with Chopard jewellery.
After three years of back to back fashion disasters at Cannes, Ash finally got it right in 2005. She impressed all in a flirty, printed dress by Giorgio Armani followed by another winner in the form of a black Gucci gown which had a plunging neckline.
Aishwarya Rai wore a navy blue strapless Elie Saab gown with a snake-like statement making neck-piece. She got a thumbs up for her sense of style and fashion choice this time.
2007 was the year when Aishwarya got married. She walked the red carpet hand-in-hand with hubby Abhishek Bachchan where she was shining in her diamonds and white strapless gown.
The first day Aishwarya flaunted her petite figure in her golden gown and that gorgeous smile. The next day, she looked sensuous in her black gown followed by a bold fuschia gown for which Ash received rave reviews.
This year was revolutionary for the ex-miss world and the critics became fans, it is till date Aishwarya’s best ever red carpet looks at Cannes. On Day 1 she wowed all with her floor-sweeping Roberto Cavalli strapless white gown and was stunning in a grey Elie Saab one-shoulder gown and slicked-back hair on Day 2.
By 2010, it was clear that Elie Saab had become Aishwarya’s favourite designer and she was again seen in a violet mermaid gown with a train and sheer shoulders. Then came another hit from Aishwarya – a black strapless Armani Prive gown. The best was a gorgeous Sabyasachi creation sari.
In 2011, Aishwarya walked the red carpet in another Elie Saab shoulder plum dress from the spring 2011 couture line and paired it with a Jimmy Choo clutch. Drop earrings, perfect make-up and a good hairdo elevated her look. Two thumbs up for this one!
2012 was the year when Ash wore a grey Elie Saab gown which clung to her plus size curves but was highly criticised for her drastic weight gain post pregnancy.
This year wasn’t that great for the new mommy either, she was again criticised for her weight gain, though her selection of dress was on point and was appreciated too. First, she wore a one-shoulder teal Gucci Premiere gown, next, she wore a black and grey Elie Saab couture gown and finally an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla floor-length Anarkali with colourful heavy embroidery.
Aishwarya sizzled in a Roberto Cavalli which was her first look, a glamorous strapless gold gown and the second in a dazzling embellished white one. Both the gowns featured a train and accentuated her beautiful curves and she finally got it right after back to back bashing.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the winner when it came to best-dressed Indian beauties at the 68th Cannes Film Festival. Out of the actress’ appearances at Cannes, her emerald Elie Saab gown received the most votes.
The diva has been greatly targeted by the critics over her fashion hits and misses at the Cannes Film Festival over the years. See what she wore for Cannes 2016 below!
