Anne Hathaway Named UN Goodwill Ambassador

On Wednesday, Anne Hathaway was named global Goodwill Ambassador for U.N. Women. The new mom will be focusing on injustices mothers face around the world.

The Oscar-winning actress became a mom recently. She is taking on some of the most challenging issues moms face around the world, including lack of access to affordable childcare, unpaid leave, wage gaps, and the organization announced.
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, U.N. Women executive director, gave a statement: “This year U.N. Women is driving hard to foster more positive mindsets and practical arrangements around workplaces that build and support equality for women” She added, “Within moments of meeting Anne I realized that we had found our woman.”

Anne is walking into Angelina Jolie and Emma Watson shoes. Angelina served as a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador for 11 years and Emma was named a U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador in the year 2014.

“I feel honored and inspired by this opportunity to aid in advancing gender equality,” Hathaway said in a statement of her role with U.N. Women. “Significant progress has already been made but it is time that we collectively intensify our efforts and ensure that true equality is finally realized.”
