Iconic Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has crooned many songs for Bollywood movies over the years. It’s safe to say that Atif rules the melodies of Bollywood. Even now, when tensions between Pakistan and India are at their worst, Atif is belting out one track after another.
However, it seems that Atif’s involvement in Bollywood is causing some turbulence.
Award winning Indian director Onir really wanted to work with Atif Aslam in his upcoming movie ‘Shab’, but was unable to do so.
“I really wanted to work with Atif Aslam. It would have been so amazing, just like a retreating therapy. But unfortunately, at the time when we had to record, things were not great between the neighboring countries.”
“There were a lot of problems happening with films and ours being a small one, I couldn’t afford that kind of thing,” Onir stated.
The director went on to give his two cents about the current situation between Pakistan & India.
“I understood the sensitivity. I have a lot of friends in Pakistan and I have been to the country. I think it is a loss for both our industries if we don’t exchange talent.”
But the entire situation is complex. Both me and Atif discussed it. We will work together in future since we didn’t do this.”
Shab features Raveena Tandon, Ashish Bisht and marks the debut of French actor Simon Frenay in Bollywood. The romance-drama is about dreams and relationships.
Set in Delhi, the film tells a story that revolves around the search for happiness and love of multiple characters. The movie will hit screens on June 30.
