The award-winning Indian filmmaker, Shonali Bose, has expressed her wish to cast Fawad Khan at the Ficci Frames 2018 where she was a part of a panel discussion, “Controliing creativity: Is censorship relevant?”
Despite the ban on #Pakistani #artists in #India, the #directors and #producers of #Bollywood are looking forward to cast them in their upcoming projects. According to reports, award-winning filmmaker #ShonaliBose expressed her wish to cast our heart throb #FawadAfzalKhan but also showed her helplessness that she can't — in the face of calls for a “ban on Pakistani actors”. According to her, such things should be stopped. The #filmmaker was part of a panel discussion — Controlling #creativity: Is censorship relevant? – alongside veteran filmmaker #ShyamBenegal at the #FicciFrames 2018 here on Tuesday. Asked how the constant restrictions from the Central Board of Film Certification is affecting the creativity and freedom of expression, Shonali said: Instead of taking action to protect the rights of women and project their image under the right light, they are restricting filmmakers from doing their work freely. #Cinema should be free… For instance, Pakistani actors are not allowed to work in #Indian films, and this decision is supported by Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association. What if I want to make a film with #FawadKhan?
While talking about the “ban on Pakistani actors”, Shonali said that these things should be stopped as they create complications because she wishes to cast Fawad Khan in her movie, but couldn’t do it because of the current situation. She said,
“Cinema should be free… For instance, Pakistani actors are not allowed to work in Indian films, and this decision is supported by Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association. What if I want to make a film with Fawad Khan?
We know if any Indian celebrity shows their support for Pakistani actors, their people label them as “anti-national”, the moderator of the panel warned Shonali about the same outcome to which she replied, “That is the problem with our country nowadays.”
Shonali further added,
“I speak of friendship between two countries. I want to make a film with Fawad Khan and nobody will allow me to make the film; producer will not back the film because of the risk and fear that has been created around it.”
Fawad Khan has worked in many Bollywood movies and he’s been extremely appreciated for his talent in India as well.
The ban imposed by India on Pakistani actors and the reaction showed by Director Guild of Pakistan has increased the tension between the two countries and the situation seems to get worse with time. Though, artists should not be discriminated on the basis of their nationality, but still we all have to abide by the rules our country has imposed.
Let’s see how long will it take to lift the ban on both sides of the border and let’s hope for a better relationship between the two countries.
