We lost our nation’s greatest humanitarian – Abdul Sattar Edhi – on 8th of July breaking millions of hearts around the globe. Pakistanis are already mourning the loss of the legendary qawwal, Amjad Sabri, it was now that the most recognized philanthropist passed away in Karachi. Edhi Sahab had a dream, to build a welfare state. Sadly, Pakistan continues to live under the shadow of dead leaders while he was out working.
Edhi was known for his work throughout his life. He wasn’t divided by class or religion. He set examples for the entire nation to follow through his actions. He was humble, specifically ordinary, very, very human like you and me yet above all when it came to humanity. He worked only for the people and sought nothing in return. His work didn’t need a recognition of a prize or a noble award.
“My religion is humanitarianism, which is the basis of every religion in the world.”
Tributes poured in by many known figures for the man treasured as a national hero. Few stars took it to twitter such as The Girl In The River’s director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy to express their condolences.
