It’s comeback time for “Rocky” franchise veteran Ivan Drago, while a trailer also offers a closer look at his son and Adonis’s new rival, the towering Viktor Drago.
The “Creed” movies were already about legacy and legend, with Adonis Creed, son of Rocky’s deceased boxer friend Apollo, beginning to fulfill his potential.
Sylvester Stallone, the “Rocky” lead both in front and behind camera, returned as a restaurateur and boxing trainer, and now we see how another franchise icon, Ivan Drago, fits into the “Creed” storyline.
Dolph Lundgren returns as Ivan, with Romanian-born, German-raised Florian Munteanu making his feature debut as Viktor.
Michael B. Jordan reprises his role as Adonis, now a new parent with singer-songwriter girlfriend Bianca (Tessa Thompson.)
Ryan Coogler directed the first movie, then went on to steer “Black Panther” (also with Michael B. Jordan) and is now working on high school drama “Wrong Answer” — also with Michael B.
Instead, it’s relative newcomer Steven Caple Jr. who is helming, so the question is whether “Creed II” will do the same for Caple and Munteanu as it did for Coogler and Jordan.
“Creed II” is being prepared for a November 21 release in US theaters, beginning its worldwide rollout the same week.
