Empire Season 3 Epidose 3 Features Mariah Carey in Critical Role

Empire is one of the most popular TV series trending nowadays, the show welcomed one of the biggest names in Hollywood in this week;s episode, the one and only, Mariah Carey. The show started to gain fandom when it first aired in 2015, it gained, even more, momentum after inviting guest stars to perform.

The idea was to tone down the number of guests for season 3 and to focus on the Lyon family even more. When co-creator, Lee Daniels, and executive producer and director, Sanaa Hamri, found out Carey was available, they took the first chance and asked her to be on the show.

“We just really grew close,” Hamri said. “I directed a bunch of stuff for her, went on tour with her many times, and I learned a lot about filmmaking through the eye of a music video director. I went on to do film and television, but we definitely have a lot of history together and I feel like I got a great glimpse of the music industry through her eyes and around her — like what really went down in the business. I met all these people because she opened that doorway for me at that time. It’s very kismet.” Hamri added.

Carey’s ties to both Hamri and Daniels goes way back in the 90s when they were hired for her music video, ‘Thank God I Found You’ remix.

On Wednesday night’s episode of Empire, Carey made her debut as Kitty, a musician who comes to Empire to record a duet with Jamal (Jussie Smollett), ‘Infamous’. Earlier in season 2 fans saw that Jamal had been struggling to perform because of PTSD after he got shot in season 2. The chemistry and collaboration is hot and happening, one of the best tracks you will hear in the show. However, Jamal needs to pop pills in order to find it in himself to get back in the studio.

Despite Carey’s busy schedule, we may see her sometime in the future on Empire, if she gets a free slot that is, the cast and crew want her to come back and add more to the storyline.
