FocusPK, led by its founder and chairperson Atiqa Odho, announced the second edition of its highly acclaimed production and entertainment conference; Focus Pakistan 2017 which will include a total number of 36 speakers and will comprise of 6 sessions on the 25th and 26th of November at the new campus of the Iqra University in Karachi.
Having made a successful debut last year, Focus Pakistan aims to further build onto the success of the inaugural conference last year. The sole aim of Focus has been to consolidate and give voice to the business of entertainment and its many shapes including the on-screen creative and off screen technical to a more formalized level, generating discussion topics with a powerful list of ambassadors, jury members and icons of the industry as speakers. Simultaneously, there was an unprecedented focus on developing and highlighting upcoming talent and provide young talent and trade professionals a platform to discover and make business connections with each other. This year’s ambassadors include Omair Rana as the face of television, Sohail Hashmi as the voice of radio, Sarmad Sultan Khoosat as the face of film, Zain Ahmed as the face of theatre and Humayun Gauhar as the face of the print. Not just this but Focus Pakistan will also be honoring industry legends Imran Aslam, Samina Peerzada, Bushra Ansari and Shoaib Mansoor for their pioneering and stellar contribution to the many facets of entertainment in Pakistan.
The conference also includes ‘The Film Market’, a short film festival where eight selected films will be screened one at a time in front of potential investors; each film will be introduced by the project filmmaker to industry professionals in audience and after the screenings are over the talent and trade would have the opportunity to network and meet. The whole purpose of this is to highlight upcoming talent and open up a window of opportunities for them. The selected films will be curated by a jury of industry directors such as Jamshed Mehmood Raza (Jami), Nabeel Qureshi, Asim Raza, Wajahat Rauf, Nadeem Baig, Marina Khan, Mehreen Jabbar and Angeline Malik.
“Given the growth of cinema and the evolution we find ourselves in the midst of, at least when it comes to cinema, a conference like this will go a long way in bringing various industry experts on one platform,” said Atiqa. “The 2 days of non-stop networking with industry professionals, the business community, National and International trade partners giving unprecedented access to the industry’s decision makers will help our entertainment industry empower, evolve & grow locally & internationally. It is high time we address just how entertainment can shape minds and maybe change them for the better. Also, I’d like to give special thanks to Shariq Chhapra & Iqra University for understanding our vision for the onward generations and allowing us to hold the conference in their premises,” said Atiqa Odho, the founder, and chairperson of Focus Pakistan.
The second edition of FocusPK will draw in members of all facets of entertainment where critical focus will be on ensuring that all the markers for the charts featuring the Pakistan entertainment industry are on the correct upward trajectory.
