The future is dark and full of endings. Reportedly, many publications pronounced that HBO’s most successful series, Game of Thrones would definitely be coming to an end after its eighth season. HBO programming chief Casey Bloys confirmed the news for us.
According to Variety, Bloys shared: “Yes, I think (showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” He said, “If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons, but we want to take their lead with what they can do and what the best version of the show is.”
Game of Thrones is one of the most watched television show with 25 million viewers this year across all platforms around the globe. Reportedly, the showrunners have planned six explosive episodes for the eighth season. This being said Bloys revealed that the exact number of episodes for the eighth season is not yet final.
Casey was then asked if they are considering a Thrones spin-off to continue the valuable franchise. She said, “It’s something I’m not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively. I’m not sure that [Benioff and Weiss] could really wrap their heads around it when they’re just about to start production [on season 7]. It’s a pretty intense production, they’re about to start production soon. I’m open to it. The guys weren’t opposed to it, but there’s no concrete plans for it at this point.”
Mr. Bloys added, “Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing”
