Mor Mahal is a tale from the 1800’s conceptualized by Imran Aslam and penned by poet and highly praised author Sarmad Sehbai, who also happens to be the writer of Mah e Mir. It is directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat and produced by Baber Javed for Geo entertainment and PTV Home.
Mor Mahal is a TV serial based on the life of 18th Century ruler Nawaab Asif Jahan played by Umair Jaswal, and his realm Jahaan-a-bad. It circles around the politics within and outside the harem. “It’s like our own version of Game of Thrones”, Umair told the media.
This story is a fantasy set in the reality of a time before the colonization of the Indian subcontinent by the British and relies on both Turkish and Mughal influences. After the remarkable fame and popularity of Mera Sultan, the Turkish historical fiction series, this latest Pakistani serial promises to give the public a similar experience.
With costumes designed by Ali Xeeshan, shoots at Lahore fort and a star-studded cast that includes Umair Jaswal, Meesha Shafi, Sania Saeed, Hina Bayat, Jana Malik, Meher Bano, Sohai Ali Abro, Umer Naro and others, this is one of the most expensive television serials made in the history of Pakistan.
