Looks like Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ is in direct threat since the Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association of India has decided not to screen movies that feature Pakistani artists. Will the movie be able to keep up with its original release date?
Nitin Datar, President of the COEAI, earlier stated, “Keeping in mind the patriotic feeling and the national interest in mind, we request all our member exhibitors to refrain from screening movies which have involvement of any Pakistani artists, technicians, directors, music directors, etc. Till the relation between India and Pakistan becomes normal, no films with Pakistani actors can be released.”
This decision directly affects the screening of ‘ADHM’, which stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
Indian Cinema Owners Decide Not To Screen Movies Starring Pakistani Actors
When inquired if the decision extends to later releases like ‘Raees,’ which stars Pakistan’s Mahira Khan, Datar replied, “We will see in the future. If the situation normalises, we will screen ‘Raees.’ It’s not a decision we can take now.”
However, this decision has been criticized by Pahlaj Nihalani who is the chief of the Censor Board. “Films already shot before changed relations between India and Pakistan should not be affected. Once cleared by censor board, the association does not have the right to ban or take decision not to screen a film,” he said.
