The Lahore High Court has granted permission to private television channels to show Indian movies, provided they have valid licenses. This decision came in light of Pemra’s report that allowed private channels to broadcast Indian films as per clause 7.2 (ii) of License to Establish and Operate Satellite TV Broadcast Channel Station.
A petition filed by M/s Leo Communication and others challenging the ban on Indian content was taken notice of by Lahore High Court.
There is still an ongoing argument happening where they haven’t decided whether broadcasting Indian plays would be allowed or not. It was said that this may be a display of selective patriotism because Indian movies have been allowed to screen all over.
Pakistanis now have an option to watch their favourite movies in the cinemas unlike a few months ago when the suspension was imposed. The question of Indian dramas is still unanswered and will most probably be decided in the next hearing.
