Bilal Lashari’s version of Maula Jutt is all set to hit the screens next year on Eid ul Fitr, Very Filmi has learnt from reliable sources. The film that has been marred with controversy regarding copyright issues (more on that later) has been in the works for quite some time and features the biggest names in the industry, including Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan, Humaima Malick and Gohar Rasheed.
It will also be director Bilal Lashari’s comeback to films after Waar that was released in 2013.
The film will not only reunite the Humsafar pair of Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan but will also mark the Punjabi film debut of rest of the cast as well. It will also bring back the iconic character of Maula Jutt back to the cinemas, something that was made famous by the great Sultan Rahi in the late 70s.
The return of Maula Jutt will also mean the return of Punjabi films in the country whose countrywide following has gone down because of the rise of Urdu cinema and the fall of regional one.
Very Filmi has also learnt that the theatrical trailer of Maula Jutt will also be making it to the silver screen sooner than we expect. The camera has closed on this movie and it is in the Post Production phase with the trailer all set for a release soon; the delay is due to the availability issues of the VFX team which is the same as Marvel’s Venom that was released worldwide over the weekend.
The film will be released in Punjabi and will clash with Wajahat Rauf’s Karachi Se Lahore 3 that is also slated for an Eid ul Fitr release. Whether or not Salman Khan’s Bharat will make it to the cinema on Eid or one week after will be decided later but one hopes that Maula Jutt gets the mileage and screens it requires to become one of the biggest hits from Pakistan.
