Mulk Director Urges Pakistanis To Watch Movie Despite Ban

Ever since the trailer of Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu starrer Mulk was released, it was evident that the film will not be released in Pakistan since it was about the two-nation theory. Earlier this week, the Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) banned the release of the film across Pakistan, as expected.

However, director Anubhav Sinha who helmed the project wasn’t very happy with the decision of the Pakistani Censor Board. He got disheartened after the news and wrote an open letter to the citizen of Pakistan.

In the letter, he wrote:

I remember the day the trailer came out many in India and also many in Pakistan wrote against it. Some in India thought it was pro Muslim and some in Pakistan thought it stereotyped Muslims. Contradictory but true. I kept insisting the film was about LOVE. Love amongst Hindus and Muslims. Now the word is out. The press has seen it and the audience in the UAE too has seen it.

He further emphasized that both of the nations must work on strengthening the relationship.

It is not pro-Muslim or Anti-Muslim, Pro-Pakistan or Anti-Pakistan. It is about You. It is about Me. You have Hindus as a minority in your country and we have Muslims as a minority in ours. We all must work towards co-existing in peace and harmony.

He also raised the question that of why the authorities don’t want people to talk about interfaith harmony and he urges Pakistani to watch it.

Here is my question to you. Why is it so that they do NOT want you to see the film that talks about co-existence. I know, sooner or later, you will have access to the film. Please do watch it and give me your opinion WHY DID THE PAKISTAN CENSOR BOARD ban the film.

Anubhav Sinha has been in the film industry for nearly 2 decades and has been the man behind successful flicks like Tum Bin, Dus and Ra.One. His open letter to Pakistanis will surely make them watch the film when it comes out on DVD.
