After a long time, Pakistani cinema is on the verge of two huge blockbusters – Na Maloom Afraad 2 and Punjab Nahi Jaungi – that are due to release this Eid ul Azha.
The successful producer – director pair of Fizza Ali Meerza and Nabeel Qureshi are behind the former while Nadeem Baig makes a comeback to films with the latter. The trailer of both the films was released a few days back.
While Na Maloom Afraad 2 trailer brought a smile to your face, the PNJ one hit the heart with its powerful dialogues and performances.
However, the Cinemas throughout Karachi at least are playing just one of the two trailers which is something that will damage both the films, when they are released.
It is a known fact that three of the biggest cinema chains in Pakistan are behind Na Maloom Afraad 2 and that is one of the reasons why the trailer runs almost twice during the screening of Pakistani and Indian films and once during English flicks.
The overexposure of the trailer can damage the film which is not what anyone wants since Nabeel and Fizza’s work is loved by all and makes their movie one of the most awaited events of the year.
On the other hand, I haven’t seen the trailer of Punjab Nahi Jaungi anywhere yet, considering it had done well on YouTube where it has broken all records.
By not promoting the other film – be it deliberately or not – the producers are damaging their own product because the PNJ trailer will pull the audience to cinema who might end up watching the Nadeem Baig movie or the Nabeel Qureshi one, seats to whichever would be available.
Pakistan’s film industry is not at a stage where people can dictate which trailer to run and which not to. At this moment, we need more quality films than ever and if two such movies have their trailers ready, then not playing one of them is a crime of sorts.
Enjoy both the trailers below and support quality cinema by taking your family out for a back to back extravaganza next Eid. I have marked my calendar and will surely spend my Eid ul Azha in a multiplex!
