B-town actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be playing the character of Saadat Hassan Manto in the upcoming film ‘Manto’. The project will be filmed under the direction of Nandita Das.
The ‘Raees’ actor plans to cut himself off from civilization, so he can do justice to the role of the celebrated Indo-Pakistani writer, playwright, and actor.
Nawaz says, “Thanks to Nandita’s research on Manto, I feel I know him well enough to get into his mind and body. The body part is relatively easier. I need to dress the way he did, and as long as I’m playing him, I need to live my life the way he did. Alone. Writing words that created magic on paper.”
The filmmaker says, “It is an independent film, not a typical Bollywood song and dance film. We don’t have a big budget so we can’t stretch it (the shooting) till 200 days. We will try to shoot it as fast as we can, in a very efficient way.”
She further added that the upcoming movie will start filming next month and other prominent names in the industry will also be joining the project.
“Nawazuddin is the lead but we have a lot of prominent names supporting the film, I am very fortunate. They are ready to do even small roles, all of the names will be out soon. I hope you’ll watch the film.”
