While B-town can not wait for Sonam Kapoor starrer Neerja to reveal itself on the silver screen, Pakistan has placed a mighty ban on the movie from the cinemas nationwide. This was, of course, bound to happen given the nature of the flick.
Based on real-life events, the film is a biopic of the young Indian flight attendant Neerja Bhanot who risked her life to save many aboard the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 at the Karachi Airport in 1986. The Mumbai to New York flight was attacked by terrorists who killed the brave 24 year old lady as she tried to rescue passengers.
Sources reveal that the movie was not even submitted to Pakistan’s censor board and declared banned by the information and commerce ministry. Even the cable channels in the nation have been restricted by PEMRA to not to showcase the Bollywood flick.
All these actions are done as Neerja exhibits a shady image of Pakistan and even shares some anti-Pakistani elements in the movie.
