Nike India’s new ad campaign features its brand ambassador, Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone along with several female athletes displaying girl power and marking a departure from past women-centric sports advertising in India. The new music video is aimed at girls, urging them to go out, pick a sport and play. It also broadens the definition of sports in India, portraying there is more to it than just cricket.
Before venturing into the glamorous world of modeling and film, Deepika used to play badminton. She is the daughter of celebrated badminton player Prakash Padukone, she has now come on board for Nike’s Da Da Ding campaign to fuel and promote sports for women.
Deepika shared the Nike Advert on her social media and it has been going viral ever since it released!
“When I was growing up my father said to me, “To be the best, always remember the three D’s – Discipline, Dedication and Determination. Follow your heart. Do what you are passionate about.” Sport has taught me how to handle failure. It has also taught me how to handle success. It has kept me grounded. It has taught me humility. Two years ago I struggled with depression. I was sinking. I almost gave up. But it was the athlete in me that gave me the strength to fight and never ever give up! And so I want to say to every girl and every boy and every woman and every man…play a sport…because it changed my life…and it will change yours too! Sport has taught me how to survive! It has taught me how to fight! It has made me unstoppable! #JustDoIt “, Deepika posted on her facebook along with the video.
Following the remake of the Spice Girls’ Wannabe music video to promote the empowerment of women and the issues they face globally comes this inspiring video packed with girl power!
