Dancer and actress Malika Zafar has challenged the stereotypical role of women in our society, with her character Milli, in the hit drama serial Udaari. From playing an escort in Anima State by Hammad Khan to a female drummer, fighting against child abuse, in HUM TV’s Udaari, Malika stands out for playing unconventional roles and stealing the show with her dialogue delivery.
VeryFilmi had an exclusive interview with Malika and here’s what she had to say:
Tell us about yourself? Where are you from and what’s your family like?
I was born in Karachi but grew up predominantly in Islamabad. My family is wonderful. I’ve been very lucky to have such a supportive and loving family. Don’t know what I’d do without them!
Who’s your rock? The one person you can always rely on?
My mother.
Tell us about your upcoming projects?
There are a couple of exciting projects that you guys will find out about very soon!
Describe your experience of Udaari?
I feel so lucky to have started out on television with such an excellent play. It was wonderful working with Ehtesham Bhai and specially Bushra Apa. I learned a lot.

Are you willing to venture into filmmaking in Pakistan?
I think it is essential for most people to study filmmaking before making a film. I would perhaps like to go study it at some point.
Any Bollywood offers on the horizon? Would you work in Bollywood, if given the chance?
Given the current political climate, I don’t think anyone is getting offers from Bollywood! But yes I would love to work there.

About Malika Zafar:
Zafar has learned acting from the teacher of the legendary Hollywood star, Meryl Streep. She went on to study acting in Mumbai as well.
After making her name in theater, her television debut was Udaari. Zafar is also a professionally trained dancer and excels in Bharatanatyam, Tap, Ballet, Jazz, and Salsa.
Zafar defines herself as an actor with a mission and aspires to play significant roles in TV and films to help project women in a positive light.
