Elections are usually battlegrounds for politicians & political parties waging war on each other, but there is always room for exceptions. In Pakistan, celebrities are now actively taking part in politics and some of them are even contesting the 2018 General Elections.
Amir Liaquat needs no introduction, he’s been a politician-turned-religious scholar-turned entertainer, and the cycle keeps on repeating.
In the past, he’s been part of MQM but now he’s taking part in the elections under the banner of PTI.
He will contest for PTI from NA-245, the constituency in Karachi. Liaquat joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in March, and according to him, this is the ‘last’ party he has joined.
Abrar Ul Haq
Another PTI candidate, who also participated in the 2013 elections, is again contesting elections from Narowal for the NA-78 constituency.
His main rival from the region is former Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal. Abrar Ul Haq has used a populist style of campaigning, going to barber shops, tailoring shops and participating in Chapatti making.
Abrar is known for his social activities, he is also the founder and chairman of Sahara for Life trust.
The former model will run from PS-125 under the PTI ticket and will look to challenge rival MQM in the 90 zone.
PTI is the change Karachi needs and while representing my constituency PS 125 I intend to achieve the change they want to see. Whether I win or lose, I will continue doing my social work. I want to change the cultural policies of Pakistan through politics.”

This celebrity is contesting elections from Landhi, provincial assembly seat PS-94. The actress was seen with PPP supporters at her election office in Zamamabad area.
She believes that no other party other than PPP has the ability to grant tickets to artists and to females.
She was awarded the ticket on 30th June, and she is actively spending over 12 hours a day in the area to develop a vote bank.
The singer-turned-politician and founder of Barabari Party Pakistan, is competing for National assembly seat NA-246 from the area of Lyari against none other than Bilawal Bhutto.
The singer aspires to bring equality between the rich and the poor.
The famous actor is contesting for the seat NA 246 which also includes the area of North Nazimabad and other surrounding areas.
Sajid believes that in order to contest for a National assembly seat, it is necessary to associate yourself with a Political Party as it provides a platform.
He joined PPP despite criticism because he believes it is the most developing party of the nation.
According to him, PPP has taken a good initiative by introducing artists to mainstream politics.
Khoso is contesting for the seat PS-101, which encompasses the areas of Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Abul Hassan Isphanai Road.
He told media that he sees PPP as ideologically the most mature party, thus the reason he joined the party several years ago as the information secretary.
Ayub Khoso stressed on the need of providing solutions with the collaboration of MPAs and MNAs, especially issues regarding water shortages, education, environment, and health.
Elections are no longer confined to politicians and we are already seeing a drastic change in the political landscape of Karachi. How beneficial will this be in the upcoming elections? We’ll have to wait for 25th July!
