Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) served notices to 29 satellite television news channels for broadcasting the fake news of a bomb blast in Gulberg, Lahore on the 23rd of February, 2017.
Following a deadly blast in a shopping center in the Defence area of Lahore, news broke about another explosion in Gulberg.but this turned out to be a hoax.

The PEMRA had given 7 days to the management of the channels in question to reply to the notice.
According to The News, the following TV channels aired the false news:
- Khyber News
- 92 News
- Metro 1
- Abb Takk
- 7 News
- Lahore News
- Sindh TV
- Channel 5
- Channel 24
The TV channels reported the ‘breaking news’ between 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm creating panic and fear among the public, the PEMRA statement said. The ‘erring channels’ have been asked to explain why they not be fined up to Rs1 million each or their licenses not be suspended/canceled for airing such news.
