Of Posters and Pakistani Films!

It’s Posters Di Game if you ask me … films with the best or most different posters are preferred over those that go the tried and tested route. Shoaib Mansoor’s Verna had the best poster yet the film failed to impress many especially the critics.

On the other hand, the poster of ARY Films’ upcoming film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 is out and it makes us want to leap into the future to watch the second edition of the super hit franchise.

JPNA 2’s poster isn’t the only one going viral, there have been others as well.

Let’s analyze all those Pakistani films posters so as to judge the amount of thinking that went behind its making, if there was any such thing.

The Best – Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2

Even if the poster hadn’t been released, people who loved the first part have written ‘Watching JPNA 2’ on their calendars; the poster presents 4 dashing characters in the film that include Ahmad Ali Butt, Fahad Mustafa, Humayun Saeed and Vasay Chaudhry – all in alphabetical order to give them equal footing.

Unlike the last time when Hamza Ali Abbasi shared the scene with his buddies, this film has Fahad Mustafa playing co-lead to Humayun Saeed or that’s what the poster suggests. It does give you the feeling of an international film where men show off their swag while walking. WATCHING!

The Filmis

Arth – Shaan Shahid’s film has the international feel and considering the posters of Mujhe Chaand Chahye were his creations, I was looking forward to something great. The posters where he is posing with the guitar are exactly what were expected from him – classy, simple and effective.

The Humaima – Moheb poster is so hot that you might not be able to handle it.

However, the one featuring all 4 actors seems inspired from the very place from where Rafay Rashdi got his inspiration while he was making Thora Jee Le.

For no reason Rafay included 7 unknown actors in the poster while Shaan bettered it with 3 less, all four experienced showbiz people too.

‘The name Rangreza is not to be confused with TV drama O Rangreza’ that should have been there on the poster. The lead pair of Bilal Ashraf and Urwa Hocane appear in a filmi pose on the poster but what’s intriguing is the fact that Gohar Rasheed’s shirt features many Chays … why, is beyond anyone’s imagination!

The Worst – Maan Jao Na

When you don’t do your homework, this is what you get. The film’s producers have released a string of posters but none of them looks like a well-thought attempt.

The one in which Ayaz Samoo is seen carrying Hajra Yamin is a total disappointment as Hajra doesn’t look poster ready and the angle seems awkward too.

Then other one with Adeel Chaudhry in the middle reminds me of an old Shaadi photo where a cousin of mine posed with his two favourite ladies – his sisters.

The third one featuring the dashing leading couple is in fact the better poster but it would have been better had it been released a little later after all the hue and cry would have died down about other films.
