Internet sensation, Qandeel Baloch has reportedly been edited out from her social media handles. Baloch was brutally murdered last week by her brother, Waseem, on Saturday in her hometown Multan. She has become one of the most popular and recent victims of ‘honour killings’ in the country. Her official Facebook page that hosted her indecent images and videos, is deleted permanently. Also, Baloch’s Instagram account that was owned by Facebook has been removed.
Baloch largely remained a punch line for many while she was alive. After her murder, she is being honoured and remembered for her bravery in her attempt to shatter chauvinism. People across the globe claim that she was fighting continuously to achieve sexual liberty for herself.
Miley Cyrus took the news to her Instagram: There is no honour in killing this beautifully free spirited soul! #RIPQANDEEL
According to a Facebook policy, any account which belongs to a lamented person is automatically generated by Facebook into a memorialised account for friends and family. However, Facebook’s help centre says: “pages with a sole admin whose account was memorialised will be removed from Facebook if we receive a valid request.”
Qandeel was the sole admin of her social media accounts. She had over 700,000 fans on her Facebook page. Her account wasn’t generated as a memorialised account. Instead, it was wiped off completely after requests from fans poured in across the globe to take her official accounts down. All that remains of our controversial queen is her Twitter handle.
Waseem, who allegedly murdered her sister spoke to media. He said: “She was bringing disrepute to our family’s honour and I could not tolerate it any further. I killed her around 11.30pm on Friday night when everyone else had gone to bed. My brother is not involved in the murder”
