Sharjah Reading Festival To Pay Tribute to Imtiaz Ali Taj on 49th Death Anniversary

When we talk about Urdu literature, one of the names that we take pride to mention is Imtiaz Ali Taj. The famous playwright is remembered for many of his plays including Chacha Chhakkan Ne Tasveer Taangi and Begum Ki Billi whereas his masterpiece ‘Anarkali’ was the play on which Bollywood Blockbuster Mughal-e-Azam was based.

Commemorating his legacy on account of his 49th death anniversary on 19th April, Sharjah Children Reading Festival will pay tribute to Imtiaz Ali Taj whose timeless loves story ‘Anarkali’ is still a part of present-day projects every now and then.

The 11th annual edition of SCRF will be organized from 17th April 2019 to 27th April 2019 by Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) and will be held at the Expo Centre Sharjah.

It will gather some of the best-known authors under one roof together from 18 countries including Pakistan and India. Yasmin Tahir, daughter of Imtiaz Ali Taj and a famous TV personality herself, will attend the event alongside her husband renowned actor Naeem Tahir and her son actor/director Ali Tahir who was recently performed Bhai Bhai with his brother Hollywood actor Faran Tahir.

During the event, Bazme Urdu will also organize a play by Indian theatre group ‘Pierrot Troupes’ on 18th April that will revive Chacha Chakan, the iconic character created by Imtiaz Ali Taj.

During the event, Imtiaz Ali Taj’s grandson Ali Tahir will also enact the climax scene of ‘Anarkali’ with renowned Indian playwright and director, M. Sayeed Alam who will be part of the event as well with his team.
