Earlier this year, the Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhary announced a total ban on screening Bollywood movies in local cinemas after India refused to release its films.
Fawad Chaudhry also ordered the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Association (Pemra) to take action against Made in India Advertisements.
After the decision, Neuplex Cinemas also announced that they will only focus on local content until the situation gets normalized.
However recently, the talented Pakistani actor Sheheryar Munawar spoke up against the ban on Bollywood movie and said that it will only deteriorate the business of cinema owners.
The actor appeared in the latest show on Waseem Badami in which he was asked about his views on the ban.
The ‘Parey Hut Love’ star said:
I completely understand that it should be a cross border kind of thing but the back-channel diplomacy has always been through arts. We need to see reality as well. We need to build your cinemas strong and for that, we need to screen Bollywood movies.
He further added:
In order to build our cinemas strong, we need to screen many movies and cinema owners should have rights to buy Hollywood and Bollywood movies.
