When we heard that BBC is making a TV series based on the 1993 hit novel ‘A Suitable Boy’, about four Indian families just after the partition of the subcontinent, with a non-white cast, we immediately thought of the suave and handsome Fawad Khan!
While no official announcements have been made, we couldn’t stop ourselves from daydreaming about the bold and daring Fawad Khan playing a part in this epic Indian tale!
Fawad has already proved his mettle with Pakistani dramas Daastaan, Humsafar and Bollywood movies Khoobsurat, Kapoor & Sons, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
What role should Fawad play?
A Suitable Boy is set in a newly post-independence, post-partition India. The novel follows the story of four families over a period of 18 months, and centers on Mrs. Rupa Mehra’s efforts to arrange the marriage of her younger daughter, Lata, to a “suitable boy”.
Lata is a 19-year-old university student who refuses to be influenced by her domineering mother or opinionated brother, Arun. Her story revolves around the choice she is forced to make between her suitors Kabir, Haresh, and Amit.
We think Fawad will be the perfect choice for one of Lata’s suitors!
The book will be adapted into a lavish eight-part series with a script from Andrew Davies, the screenwriter whose hits include the famous 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice and 2016’s adaptation of War and Peace.
However, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with this new series.
